Sustainability equals Colac: the first-ever recipient of the Greener Planet Award

Colac is immensely proud to proclaim itself the first-ever winner of the Greener Planet Award, one of the major SME sustainability awards for the EU food and drink industry – known as The Foodies. We’re happy to be acknowledged for spearheading several sustainability practices across the food industry, in terms of products and responsible production processes.

Rest assured; we have many more goals ahead of us – each one more ambitious than the next.

Sustainability as part of Colac’s DNA

First thing’s first: sustainable business processes are far from recent developments at Colac. Being a family-owned SME, we’ve always enjoyed the advantage of being able to really commit ourselves to long-term perspectives. For example, investing in sustainable initiatives like water recuperation and filtration innovation. Not much financial gain to be had, but plenty of potential towards a sustainable future.

Not only our business processes are up for greening. It goes well beyond that. We continuously optimize our staff’s work environment, improve our product’s contents, and assess the key areas where we can reduce waste even further. It’s all part of a single approach, one focused on staying future-oriented and daring to innovate towards a sustainable tomorrow.

A sustainable Belgian food industry

As we can all agree, food stands at the center of man’s life on earth. It makes a sustainable food industry something we all gain from. A sustainable food industry makes for healthy food products, conscious business, and the promise of a better future.  Sustainability is a broad concept. One limited not only to green energy or eliminating the need for fossil fuels. Sustainability is – in fact – a story of many chapters. Chapters surrounding processes, innovation, working conditions, and people.

With the Greener Planet Award under our belt, we look forward to moving even further along the path of sustainability. We’re ready to intensify our efforts to recycle and sort waste, as well as ensuring additional investments towards sustainable business operations – each one in line with market trends.

About the SME sustainability awards – The Foodies

The Food and Drink SME Sustainability Awards (The Foodies, for short) are a celebration of sustainability achievement among 290,000 small and medium-sized enterprises that make up 99% of Europe’s food and drink industry. Besides the Greener Planet Award, the Foodies are known for two more categories meant to celebrate green innovation: Belgian craft beer specialist Léopold7 won the Healthier Living award, while sustainable food app Too Good To Go took home the Next-Gen Innovator award.
